About Mending
Mending is a team of healthcare nerds, software engineers, product designers, direct primary care doctors, health insurance experts, and more. We are building a healthcare system that makes sense, starting by redefining the role of health insurance – one that focuses on reducing friction for doctors and patients, and investing in ways to create more meaningful doctor-patient relationships.
We believe unrushed conversations with doctors lead to better health and lower costs for patients. Our health plans enable all members to have free and frictionless access to a dedicated doctor they know and trust. We’re excited to create health insurance plans you can actually use.
We’re backed by top investors and are looking for values-aligned individuals to join our NYC-based founding team.
Our aspirations for this role
Mending is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual who will lead a variety of activities related to partnering, onboarding, and supporting our Direct Primary Care (DPC) providers. You’ll play a key role in building and maintaining strong relationships with our DPC partners. You’ll also serve as a guide, helping providers navigate both general and complex health insurance questions—bridging the gap between traditional insurance and direct primary care, which is no easy feat!
For the right candidate, this is a tremendous opportunity to grow professionally by covering a broad surface area – from working directly with doctors and practice staff, to acting as a liaison to health plan operations, to organizing and executing on marketing events, to sometimes even rolling up your sleeves and interacting with patients/members directly to find resolution. Wearing multiple hats is an understatement. You will be deeply involved in one of the company’s core strategic areas: DPC.
What would former colleagues say about you? You’re extremely curious and a natural sponge. You are in the part of your career where you are optimizing for learning, growth, exposure, and hands-on operational experience. You naturally prioritize helping people and never leave a task unfinished. You care deeply about the quality of your work. You are energized the most when you’re building, among colleagues who challenge you and give you feedback along the way. You love to educate and inspire. You are gritty and optimistic. You want to be part of a mission that makes sense.
Mending is in its early stages. Each new team member has the opportunity to significantly shape our culture, product, strategy, and operations. Candidates should be eager to work in a dynamic, fast-moving environment where their contributions have a direct and outsized impact.
Let’s dive into the details
- Serve as a key point of contact for DPC provider partners, ensuring timely and accurate support across onboarding, billing, and insurance navigation/day-to-day questions
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams (eg, health plan operations, member support, product, engineering) to surface and solve issues impacting the provider experience
- Continuously identify and act on opportunities to make workflows more efficient, and improve provider-facing systems or processes
- Nurture strong relationships with our DPCs through regular outreach, proactive problem-solving, and timely issue resolution
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and empathy in all external communications, ensuring a consistently positive experience for providers and their teams
- Plan and execute on DPC-related campaigns, whether it be practice website optimization, social media coordination, or in-person marketing events
- Visit our markets and meet with DPC doctors and related partners – hospital systems, community groups, brokers, etc. – in general support of new market launches or Open Enrollment general public to support launch (Note: this may require you to travel to our markets 25% of the time)
Experience that excites us
- 2–6 years of working experience in a professional environment, ideally in a customer-facing, client support, or operational role (preferably in healthcare)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills—you’re clear, professional, and confident in external interactions
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on tasks without supervision
- A collaborative mindset, openness to feedback, and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
- Experience in healthcare, ideally in the context of payers and providers
- Proficient with data tools (Excel, Google Sheets, Metabase, CRM software, etc.)
