FAQs for DPCs

Who is Mending?

Mending, formerly known as Taro Health, is a DPC-first technology company. We’ve been working closely with DPCs since 2020, helping to drive more new patients to the DPC model/practices, and crafting better health with DPC at the center.

Today, Mending offers 2 products:

1. Mending Insurance - We offer fully-insured ACA Marketplace plans in Maine and Oklahoma or individuals and families. Mending insured members use DPC as the foundation of their care, and have wraparound health insurance. We are proud to be working with almost every DPC in Maine and Oklahoma!

2. Mending Access - Launched in 2025, Mending Access is a nationwide DPC program where any DPC in the country can join us, as we partner with large employers and TPAs to fully integrate DPC into the employer-sponsored health plan. This gives more employees access to DPC, and enables more DPC practices to grow and grow faster.

What is “Mending Access”?

Mending Access is Mending’s newest nationwide program for DPCs. Mending Access has started partnering with Large Employers and TPAs to fully integrate DPC into employer-sponsored health plans. The result is more employees having the DPC membership fully covered as a benefit, and therefore more employees having the option to join a local, in-person DPC practice. Mending’s technology handles all of the data and payment exchange. Different than Mending Insurance which is specific to DPCs in Maine and Oklahoma, Mending Access can work with any DPC across the country as we generate more DPC demand from Large Employers and TPAs.

Why would a DPC partner with Mending?

Mending drives new patients to your practice at no cost, with no claims filing, no coding, and no added administrative burden. Our technology and operations are built with you in mind: membership-based payments, consistent reimbursement, and zero interference with the doctor-patient relationship.

Beyond your growth, we're also mission-aligned. Mending believes DPC is a huge part of what will heal the US healthcare system, and we want DPCs to have a seat at the table as we build it together.

As a DPC, am I eligible to join Mending?

Yes! If you own an independent DPC practice, have transparent retail/cash membership model pricing, and do not bill traditional insurance, we would love to chat! Please reach out at dpc@mending.com.

Does Mending have DPC Advisors / references?

Yes! Since Day 1, Mending has brought on local and national DPC Advisors. We now work with over 400 DPCs (and growing) across the country, and would be happy to provide any DPC references.

What does joining and onboarding with Mending look like?

As straightforward as we can make it. There is an Agreement to sign, and you are required to do some light online credentialing. The key to onboarding is a technical integration with your EHR (we currently have integrations with 8 different commonly used DPC EHRs), which we will help step-by-step you through. Finally, we build a profile page for each DPC provider in your practice.

From start to finish, it typically takes 2 weeks. We have had some DPCs go from signing to getting their first patient within days, if you move fast with us. For larger practices, we average 2-3 weeks just to make sure both sides are ready to go.

What does the contract look like?

The Mending Access Agreement was co-created by our DPC Advisors and DPC lawyers. To make it easy and risk-free for DPCs, the Agreement for DPCs has a “Termination for Convenience" clause, meaning you can leave at any time if you don’t like the program. We believe deeply that our technology product and partnership must earn DPC trust and credibility each and every day. We also do not require any DPC to accept a minimum or maximum number of patients; you can turn ‘on’ or ‘off’ when you accept new Mending-sourced patients whenever you would like.

Who determines the price that I will be reimbursed?

The employers. For Large Employers who are administering their own self-funded health plan for their employees, all of the employees healthcare coverage, benefits, and cost-share is determined by the employer. For those employers who believe deeply in DPC, they have agreed to integrate DPC at $0 cost-share to the employee – meaning it’s free for the employee to join a DPC, and the employer will pay a fixed monthly rate.

Is there any cost to me as a DPC to join?

No! We do not charge DPCs to join Mending. We also do not charge for any technical integration. We ask that DPCs stay engaged with us, especially during onboarding.

What will Mending ask from me in order to receive monthly payment?

Not much more than what you do today with all of your other patients. We ask for a DPC’s engagement and support during our technical integration with your EHR. We also ask that every DPC documents thoroughly from a clinical perspective.

We do NOT require a DPC to select any CPT codes, ICD10 codes, file claims, or do any extra administrative work for the purposes of billing. This is exactly what we all want to avoid. We ask that reasonable DPCs work reasonably with us!
